Punting into a Twilight Sky

Segregated Box Office



It's a shame to think that Gloria Franklin, 85, used to have to purchase show tickets as a child at a segregated box office at the Academy of Music in Lynchburg, Va. Franklin was photographed at the old box office, where her mother's friend and neighbor, the late Lottie Payne Stratton, used to sit in the old wooden chair selling tickets. Many times Franklin was let in for free.
